It may not be the esteemed U.S. News & World Report rankings, but InsideCollege.com deemed GW one of the “hottest” colleges in the country Monday.

The list of the 20 most popular schools, based on expert input and reader polls, included GW among the ranks of its usual competitors like Georgetown, Boston and New York universities.

The website noted that the highlighted schools are most popular with students and experts, such as admissions directors and high school counselors.

Another list of 37 colleges that were judged to be merely “hot” included schools like the University of Maryland and Penn State University.

This post was updated on March 14, 2012 to reflect the following:
A paragraph states that colleges like Elon University and Vanderbilt University paid to be on the list. In fact, the schools are paid advertisers in a magazine associated with InsideCollege.com, but did not pay to be on the “hottest” colleges list. The paragraph has been removed.
