Black and Blue
Ingrid Michaelson

Ingrid has always been my go-to girl no matter what mood I’m in. Not unexpectedly, her month-old album, “Human Again,” delivers a great emotional range of songs for anyone that enjoys the best of indie-pop music. My personal favorite track, “Black and Blue,” introduces funky feel-good rhythms beneath lyrics lamenting the realization that the person you love is bringing you down. Despite the somewhat sorrowful theme, Michaelson keeps the tempo upbeat with the occasional dark melodic turn. With Michaelson’s strong voice and a beautiful melody to match, this song serves as a great tune for those long drives, or just a lazy day in bed.

Take You Higher
Goodwill & Hook N Sling

Most club music today is characterized by a heavy bass with heated lyrics and the occasional dubstep interlude. But “Take You Higher,” by Australian producers Goodwill and Hook N Sling, brings a whole new sound to late-night dance parties. This remix of Angus and Julia Stone’s indie hit “Big Jet Plane” is light, feel-good club music that really sets the mood for a fun night with friends. The mix maintains the integrity of the acoustic version while adding in just enough electronic movement to get you on your feet. Though it’s great for going out, it’s also relaxed enough for late-night studying or casual nights in.

Look What You’ve Done
Drake

Although I usually lean toward indie-pop artists, give me some high-quality rap and I’ll be obsessed within seconds. Like, listen-to-the-same album-for-two-months-straight obsessed. Most recently, that album has been Drake’s latest, “Take Care.” Every track carries its own unique vibe that helps me get through a stressful day, but by far one of my favorites on the album is “Look What You’ve Done.” This heartfelt yet mellow song is a tribute to Drake’s mom, aunt and grandma, who supported him during his rise to success. While the piano melody and beat make for a catchy track, it is the touching lyrics and the grateful tone that truly make this song stand out.
