Recently graduated women’s water polo player Megan Walker is the Collegiate Water Polo Association’s (CWPA) 2012 Women’s Varsity Division I/II Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

The award is the highest honor bestowed on a league by an active player, and recognizes a senior student-athlete “who has achieved success in both scholastic and athletic arenas while possessing a spirit which provides service to the community,” a University release said.

Walker, the team’s MVP for the 2012 season, earned All-Southern Division First Team recognition at the end of the season. She paced the Colonials with 51 goals and 71 ejections drawn, which were the fifth- and third-best single-season totals in program history, respectively.

Walker also is among the program’s career leaders in ejections drawn, at second with 210, and goals at fourth with 153.

She graduated from the University in May with 3.62 cumulative GPA, after a career with the Colonials where she was a four-time CWPA Scholar-Athlete and Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches All-Academic selection.
