While public schools outside the District are in the midst of debating whether Inauguration Day should be declared a holiday from school, GW and other area universities have already decided to give students Jan. 20 off.
“January 20 is a holiday in D.C. Therefore GW is closed,” said Robert Chernak, senior vice president for Student and Academic Support Services.
Chernak said Inauguration Day is declared a legal holiday in D.C. every four years and GW normally follows suit. D.C. public schools and universities, including Georgetown, American and Catholic, are also giving students the day off.
