GW will be in Inaugural Parade, SA president says

GW’s Inaugural float plan was approved Saturday by President-elect Barack Obama’s Inaugural Parade Committee, Student Association President Vishal Aswani announced at Tuesday’s senate meeting.

In a letter addressed to Aswani, Inaugural Parade Director Peter Gage informed the SA leader that the float design had been chosen out of a record number of applications.

“This Inaugural Parade will celebrate our common values and reflects the diversity and history of our great nation,” Gage wrote. “We had a record number of applicants, so your selection is a testament to your organization’s talent and enthusiasm.”

The float will cost the University about $85,000, said Tim Miller, executive director of the Student Activities Center, last month. It will highlight the different academic schools within the University.

The parade takes place Jan. 20 after President-elect Barack Obama is sworn into office.
