A law introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday could overturn a bill approved by the D.C. City Council and Mayor Adrian M. Fenty to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states.
About 30 members of the House have expressed support for the federal bill, which defines marriage as between a man and a woman, the Washington Post reported Thursday. Congress oversees the District’s lawmaking and has 30 days to review the bill, which Fenty signed earlier this month.
