The Joint Elections Committee has released the full list of registered candidates in the Student Association, Program Board, Class Council and Marvin Center Governing Board elections to take place next Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 24 and 25.
Only nine of the races are contested, including for SA president, executive vice president and senate seats for the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences and the Elliott School of International Affairs. The remaining elections are uncontested, including for Program Board chair.
“According to new provisions in the JEC Charter, any candidates running unopposed shall automatically win their seats,” the JEC Web site states. “If there are fewer candidates for a position than there are available seats, write-in votes will be accepted to fill the remaining seats. If there are exactly as many candidates as available seats, no election will be held for the position.”
The Student Association has historically had difficulty filling senate seats for the smaller schools and graduate programs. Last year, some write-in candidates won with as little as three votes, according to election results provided by the JEC at the time.
