After nearly two years of construction, water is expected to refill the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool by the month’s end.

Four million gallons of water will pour into the now-dry pool, closing a $34 million renovation project, according to The Washington Post.

The water will undergo a filtration process prior to flowing onto the new gray-tinted concrete floor, which will be slightly shallower than the original pool built between 1928 and 1930, The Post reported. New circulation lines on the pool’s bed will keep the water and base consistently clean, a stark contrast from the previously murky green water.

The pool also will feature sidewalks with nighttime lighting along both sides in place of the old dirt pathways.

Renovation plans were announced in April 2010 and construction began in November that year.

I heard Ryan Lochte will be at the opening to swim across and cut the red ribbon. Can anyone from The Hatchet confirm this?
