No more rushing to the ATM before hailing a cab.
All taxis will be required to accept credit cards by March 30, the Washington Post reported Friday.
Individual owners are in charge of installing the machines, though Ron M. Linton, chairman of the D.C. Taxicab Commission, said many systems are installed for free by companies that profit from transactions.
The new requirements scrap the city’s previous plan: a smart meter system that would installed in all cabs with GPS and receipt printing features. The city’s $35 million contract was overturned in November.
