Editorial: Concerns about UPD? Be involved.

The University Police Department is holding a public session during its re-accreditation process, and The Hatchet’s Editorial Board is calling for GW community members to take advantage of this opportunity to voice concerns, especially with the debate on arming UPD officers still open.

“While this may not sound like the event of the season, it is vitally important that students and community members take advantage of every chance to have a public discussion about the department charged with keeping our campus safe.”

It is very simple why the turnout for this was low. . . people felt intimidated and that if they did attend and speak their minds . . . they would receive a letter from SJS. It seems that everything is against the “Code”- I would know. . . clearly I have a big mouth. I would love for the Hatchet to do a Poll, if not here maybe facebook- “how many people would have attended the meeting in regards to UPD’s accreditation and voiced their opinion if they felt there would have been no retaliation by the University Administration?”
