Absolutely NOT. I personally have been harassed, targeted, among many other things with UPD. A few weeks ago I was referred to as “YOU PEOPLE.” I have NEVER in my entire life felt so unsafe. NEVER. As a woman who has been a victim of domestic violence who sought out a special training of RAD for because classes are all in evening and NEVER had a response I can assure you I am more than displeased. I also have professors in the School of Public Health that are equally as mortified of behavior they have seen. In fact one professor spoke of an incident where a student was recently raped and assaulted and it took an extensive amount of time to respond to her call for help, so I am not sure where the “timely manner” comes from. I will never forget one night about a month ago when I was on the metro on the last train and when I got to the top there was a young lady, GW student vomiting in the garbage, I sought out help from UPD to check her out- as her friends had ditched her, and I kid you not they said “she should be fine” so I sat with her and yelled for her friends to come back. So if the UPD officer are so educated why don’t barely any of them take advantage of the tuition benefits at GW? I also had a friend that did all the training and was harassed by the men on the force so she quit- that does not sound professional to me. I would say that the UPD on bikes are very nice and seem up-to-par! Of course not EVERY UPD officer meets the above caliber. I just literally pray that nothing major happens to me on campus.
