Hoffman: Can we FIXit? Eh, maybe later.

Melanie Hoffman, a freshman and a Hatchet columnist, discusses how the FIXit system is inadequate.

“While the occasional individual can survive living in GW Housing without running into a major FIX-it issue, most students can personally vouch for how requests submitted to FIX-it go unanswered for days, weeks and even months. “

I don’t think I’ve ever gone more than a day or two without having my FixIt requests being addressed, either on the Vern or on Foggy Bottom. Usually I submit them in the middle of the night, and someone shows up first thing the next morning. I think you may be overstating the problem with a few choice anecdotes.

I have never had a problem with FixIt. I have found them to very prompt and efficient in dealing with any issue I submit. I have never gone more than two days for a problem and I have even had them show up the same day.

The issue with FixIt is consistency. I’ve normally gotten a response within 48 hours. However, I once requested for my bed to be bunked onto my roommate’s bed. I waited a week, and figured this was one of those busy times. One month later, I called them. Apparently they had moved my request to the ‘Completed Requests’ section (Yeah, right). A week later, a man comes to our door and hands us four metal pegs. We figured FixIt would do the bunking for us, since there are a lot of liability issues. Nope, that wasn’t the case. We were handed four pegs and were left to bunk them ourselves.

Long story short: It took over a month to get four pegs from FixIt.
