Senior Frank Broomell, a Hatchet columnist, discusses why New Jersey may not be as bad as its reputation at GW makes it out to be.
“In fact, the constant bashing of New Jersey may just stem from a jealousy in the other 49 states over just how great of a state it is.”

Mr. Broomell just listed a number of things that nearly every other state has. Oh, great pizza, and subs, and don’t forget Italian food. And their beaches are top notch. This is all said with incredible sarcasm. Having been to the south Jersey shore twice (once was really enough). I know that it is filled with the slime that infects the north side of that state which is oft called the “arm pit of america.” Indeed, Jersey did not receive this distinction by accident. Jersey literally brings nothing to America. The only reason why so many people live there is because it is so close to Philly and New York. Not because it is special. When you ask someone where they are from and they are from new jersey. Most of them respond by saying New York or Philly. Nice Jersey pride. There are literally a million other places in the world that offer more than new jersey. Take Cape Cod for example. On the same North Atlantic coast, the cape boasts on of the few North Atlantic beaches that is a national park. It has been a playground for the presidents since Ulysses S. Grant. Not to mention the most popular residents, the Kennedys. The Cape also boasts scenery and seclusion that can not be obtained in Jersey. Plus, the Cape does not get infected with the daily migration of large, steroid jacked, greased up goofballs that seem to congregate the shores of jersey every year.
So, no offense, Mr. Broomell, but Jersey, has, and always will SUCK!
Mr. Broomell let me remind you of our first meeting freshmen year
Me: Hi, nice to meet you
Your: Hi, I’m Frank. I’m from Philadelphia. I support the Philadelphia Eagles, I am a diehard Philadelphia Flyers fan and will always be a Phillies fan.
Me: Oh interesting, where in Philadelphia, PA are you from
You: Oh, im actually from a small shitty city in New Jersey
ARE YOU KIDDING ME
Well I can attest to the fact that everybody within 5 states of Massachusetts, myself included, claims to be from Boston, and to be the biggest boston sports fan ever
Funny how you used NY and Philly to prop up your state. Jersey brings a lot of bad with the the bit of good. That bit of good…Bruce. End of story, you “large, steroid jacked, greased up goofballs”
It also is #1 in Guidos per capita.
California is undeniably the greatest state in our union.
Most of the negative comments about New Jersey stem from other people’s inability to relate to a sense of unity and culture within their own state that is found in NJ.
This is especially for John, first comment: Your remark was unnecessary and mindlessly inflammatory. If you were looking for your little opportunity to take a shot at Jersey and laugh at your own joke, sick job. What a clever guy. The fact is this article isn’t on the attack, it points out that NJ is a decent state, with good people, and strong culture.
John, no one is debating the fact that there are nicer places than those in NJ. There are. The point is that NJ isn’t the piece of shit you wish it was, and you know it. And by the way, I’m assuming you’re from Massachusetts- I spent a good part of my life in Western Mass., so if you want to know what a real shit hole looks like, try taking a drive through your own state.
“Plus, the Cape does not get infected with the daily migration of large, steroid jacked, greased up goofballs that seem to congregate the shores of jersey every year.” -john
Yeah, the Cape is infested with greased up Barney Franks and their boyfriends.
Jerseyyyyyyy
Do you know how you can tell when you’ve put the worst behind you? When you see the sign that says ‘you’re now leaving New Jersey’!
Okay, let’s be careful not to lump in the trashy shore with northern Jersey. Hudson County is pretty cool. You can be in the city in 15 min AND have a yard.
Apparently the best part of Jersey is you can get to somewhere you’d rather be easily.
White Castle, right? Uh, the Devils?
