Editorial: Colonials Invasion drums up school spirit

The Hatchet’s editorial board applauds this year’s Colonials Invasion as a major success for the University and the promotion of school spirit.

This past Friday not only marked the start of GW’s annual Colonials Weekend, but also the annual basketball preseason kickoff known as Colonials Invasion. The event proved an overall success, an indication of just how spirited GW students can be despite the oft-mentioned lack of unity.

  1. Don't Tread on Me says:

Colonials Invasion had a lot of flash, but lacked any sort of relation to school spirit. The fact that they imported bucket drummers from Chicago, random trampoliners that almost died 4-5 times, and the dunking team also not from GW. These random inclusions made it last an unnecessary extra hour. While it might have been fun to watch, I don’t see how watching Chicago bucketeers or Olympic Trampoliners build school spirit.

  2. What Spirit? says:

GW is not a spirited school. It never will be. We don’t have good sports teams, students are more interested in politics than sports, and the average GW student does not have a very high opinion of the school.

The University’s (especially SAC’s) sad attempts at trying to feign this sense of “spirit” are embarrassing and a waste of time and resources.
