Subramanian: Where have all the founding fathers gone?

Annu Subramanian, a freshman majoring in journalism, argues that students should be doing more than just joining causes on Facebook.

People say the Democrats have no spine. People say the United Nations has no backbone. People say my favorite baseball team, the San Diego Padres, is a jellyfish for trading away our good players before giving them a proper chance. Well, if that’s the case, then much of society in general has a bad case of Scoliosis.

I am really moved by your article. I totally agree that the onus lies on the people to take on an active stand and implement those ideas or opinions through actions and not just blabber through media outlets. I am moved everyday to spare some of time to address the suffering of the poor, especially in my native India but cannot sustain that energy beyond myself. We can move a mountain only if we can rally people behind us with a shared commitment to achieve the impossible. I hope I will have the courage and the strength to carry on the struggle of hope for the suffering masses. Your inspiring words will allow one to reinforce his learning and commitment to achieve set goals.
